Proudly distilled, matured and bottled on our family-owned estate, Rye & Malt marked the second release in the Shortcross Irish Whiskey collection, following our inaugural Single Malt.

Crafted using a unique mash bill of 100% Irish malted rye and malted barley, this exceptional whiskey is double distilled in traditional copper pot stills, including one of the smallest whiskey stills on the island of Ireland.

Matured in a carefully selected combination of Virgin Chinquapin Oak and first-fill ex-Bourbon and Tennessee Whiskey casks, Rye & Malt delivers a beautifully layered character, balancing creamy sweetness, vibrant orchard fruits and warming spice.

Bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered and presented in its natural colour, preserving the authentic flavours and rich character developed throughout maturation.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Inviting aromas of soft, warming spice, vibrant orange peel and creamy caramel fudge, creating a beautifully balanced introduction.

Palate

Layers of sweet stem ginger, fresh apricot and crisp green apple unfold alongside rich dark honey, bringing together vibrant fruit, gentle spice and indulgent sweetness.

Finish

Long, velvety and wonderfully rich, with lingering notes of sweet orange marmalade, creamy fudge and delicate warming spice.

Shortcross Rye & Malt showcases the character of Irish-grown malted rye and malted barley, brought together in a carefully developed mash bill that delivers both richness and complexity.

Following an extended fermentation of over 140 hours, the spirit is double distilled in our copper pot stills before being matured in a combination of specially selected oak casks.

Virgin Chinquapin Oak contributes distinctive spice and depth, while first-fill ex-Bourbon and Tennessee Whiskey casks complement the spirit with layers of sweetness and complexity.

Every stage, from distillation and cask filling to maturation and bottling, takes place at our family-owned distillery in County Down.
